BUSINESS RACE ENGINEER

THE STORY

I didn't start with a
framework. I started with a phone call.

In 2021, the founder of Lightning Box Games called me to say the company had been acquired. When I started working with them two years before, they had planned to sell it in five. They sold it in two.

I'd spent two years working alongside his team. Not as a consultant who parachuted in with a slide deck. As a strategic partner who showed up every week - building leadership, installing accountability, creating the systems that let a fast-growing gaming company run without its founders running themselves into the ground.

Quote in cursive font that reads, "The most valuable thing a business adviser can do isn't solve the problem. It's build the engine that solves it when you're not there."

Before Lightning Box, I spent two decades in some of the world's most demanding organisations. At LexisNexis (NYSE), I was CEO direct report, managing P&L, M&A and divestments across Australia and New Zealand. At Microsoft in Seattle, I worked with the MSN Corporate VP. At BHP's Illawarra Coal business, 2,500 people, I led strategy and planning for an Asset President who still names me as a reference today.

I've worked inside PBL Media, Vodafone, Lion, GWF, and dozens of founder-led businesses across Australia, the GCC, India and Southeast Asia. I understand what it takes to move large groups of people in one direction, and what it takes to help a 12-person services firm stop collapsing every time the founder goes on holiday.

The problem is almost always the same. The business was built around one person. And that person is usually the most talented one in the room.

About a decade ago, I moved my focus entirely to founder-led businesses. The problems were smaller in scale but identical in nature. And the impact was more visible, and more personal. I followed the work.

Today I work with founders and MDs of businesses doing AU$2M–$10M, globally and virtually, helping them build the structure, leadership, and execution cadence that turns a founder-dependent business into something that scales, or sells, on their terms.

"I grew up in an Italian household where Formula 1 wasn't sport - it was religion. What I understood early was that in F1, the driver gets the glory. But it's the race engineer who builds the car that wins. That's what I do."
